Let’s talk window treatments for a moment.
I need a boat load of them in the new house. I’m trying to be more organized and have a narrower focus when it comes to getting things done in our house but I’m not having any success so far. I’m all over the place. I decided that I wanted to elevate the look of the master bedroom windows because we painted the room (hasn’t been revealed) and we obviously need privacy in that room and I’m beginning to get angry everyday that I have to look at dingy mini blinds from the early 1990s.
So a couple of weeks ago I started hunting for some shades. I already have the Pottery Barn Peyton drapes,
I’d like to layer a simple, fabric roller shade behind the Peyton drape. Sounds easy enough right, NO. Here’s a list of places I visited in search of the shades I wanted.

Country Curtains
Country Curtains was a long shot because I refused to give up and pay Smith + Noble $130 or more for one custom shade. Jackpot! Not only did they have almost exactly what I was looking for, they had a rather wide selection of a bunch of shades I liked and they offer free samples, so I ordered 7 of them.
I chose the insulated weaver shade for the master. Although the shade is not a custom fit they offer so many widths that the one you need is probably available.
I’m also thinking about ordering these for DC’s room and then embellishing them myself with chocolate grosgrain ribbon like this,
I’m going to order the bamboo insulated shades for the living room, love the binding on the sides and the fact that they are lined,
Sample hanging out in the window until purchase time,
There are some other fabulous choices too like,
ignore the valance focus on the classic ticking stripe or how about a neutral woven shade, Country Curtains gets a big recommendation from me and no I didn’t get paid to say this but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like to.Thanks for playing,
Isabella and Max Rooms has a good tutorial on embellishing a cheap roller shade. I don’t know if I’d do it in a living room but it would be nice in bedrooms where you want the light blocked.

I love the bound bamboo shades, esp when you can get them in colors that match the room.
Just a heads up: I’m doing the exact same thing for a new house and decided to go with Country Curtains shades (roman/roller), then they said they’re discontinuing the current shades … I was bummed but they said they’re coming out with a new and improved line this month. Hoping they still have great choices! CC has good customer service, would love to go that route. Apparently no one else makes affordable fabric roman shades anymore. Is it because of safety recalls? I used to find them easily in the past …
Lisa- I saw the Isabella & Max DIY, I’m not sure whether I’ll attempt myself or not
Danielle-thanks for the heads up, they haven’t told me that they’ve been backordered yet. I ordered 3 a couple of days ago for one bank of windows to make sure everything worked out well maybe I should go ahead and order the other 3!
Love Country Curtains! The roller roman is the best I use it all the time. No cord safety hazards. I install them myself very easy (and I’m not super handy) Problem is they don’t always come in the right size.
Oh good! Glad they had your size. Let me know how they work out. I’m also eyeing their return rods for drapes. :)
ps – i have several Peyton drapes too! Love them, and they do well at blocking sun.
I want the roller shade for my family room, but they don’t have the right size for one window. Boo. Anxious to here how the romans work out.
We live by them and I was just there about two weeks ago looking for valances. I think I’ll end up making them myself – but the customer service is excellent!
