All Eyes on Hickory Chair

I’m from Hickory, NC. Many of my friends bore the last names of furniture lines that may appear under the seat cushions of a couch in your home and many others were the latch key kids to framers, springers and upholsterers. I didn’t quite realize at the time how much my hometown meant to the design world of furniture.

As I have grown to understand the furniture cosmos a bit more, I see the disparity that has overcome the small town where I grew up. The furniture markets moved away to High Point, factories shuttered in favor of cheaper production in China, and the landscape of our town changed as the industry shrank and left many skilled workers out of jobs.

Headquarters remain, and there are still a few thriving factories left. A few of the brand names that I spend my time scouring for in the local thrift shops include Robert Abbey, Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams, HBF, and Hickory Chair.

Hickory Chair!

They’ve just launched a collection with the Hable sisters of Hable Construction. In addition that that fun news, it seems to me they are killin it at the #HPMKT.  Take a look at a few of the instagram snaps I’ve stalked from afar and let me know what ya think.
