Cali Chalet: Wall to Wall Sisal Carpet

There is an enormous dose of 1990s green carpet running all throughout the bedrooms of the Cali Chalet. It’s even in the bathroom!

My immediate desire was to replace with hardwood flooring throughout and lay down rugs in the bedrooms for warmth. But after a few logical pleas the fam and the one great suggestion from my BFF/Realtor, it got me thinking about carpet after all.

We have two dogs that shed a great deal. One is black and the other is a grey and white mix, so there is no good shade of carpet for us that I could fathom being able to stomach. At our current home, I’m happy for the dog fur to collect in corners and I find it easy to pull up with a handheld Dyson and weekly sweeping/vacuuming. (performed by a housekeeper cause I’m willing to admit we all have strengths and keeping a house deeply tidy is not mine.)

The downstairs at Cali Chalet is dark and needs the lift of a light floor, but of more concern to the dude and the kids, the house is going to be chilly on snowy days and the desire for warmth and coziness is a strong motivator.

Here are a few images that have inspired the look. It’s not a done deal yet though. I’m having a heck of hard time finding the product or anyone that will install it in our little town. We had a local flooring guy over and he practically laughed at my idea, told me that we will fall down and scrape up our knees on it, and when I protested that no one was breaking skin on our grass rugs at home, he then looked over to Heffe and asked him if I always get what I want, suggesting that I do.

Don’t I wish that were so!

If it were, then maybe the downstairs will come to look something like this in the future.
