Everybody Loves…

a good before and after.

Visiting a long renovation or design project every morning and seeing the gears of progress sometimes turn slowly puts you in the mood for some instant gratification. I came across this roundup at Better Homes & Gardens. I think you’ll enjoy it. Its the classic ugly duckling to swan montage.

Some of my favorites from the roundup,

A before of a contemporary style home–sometimes referred to as a shed design in my architecture books,

before contemporary

And then the after, with a much needed porch instead of that sunroom on the front

after contemporary

Classic 1940s Cape Cod with a flat front and overgrown shrubs,

before flat

And voila, they added the obvious covered entry and added some other small architectural details,

after flat

Oh the rancher, I dream constantly about flipping a ranch. This one has dormers!

before ranch

Ranch turned cottage, they used some great materials here like brick, cedar shingles, copper gutters. They kept the crooked tree.

after ranch
