Dear Dan (my husband),
I’ve know for probably a year now that I reeaaaally want an upholstered bed in our bedroom. There are lots to choose from as evidenced here but the simplicity of the Colette bed has always appealed to me.
This is the Colette bed,
Lovely don’t you think, I know you’re dying for it. The Colette is $1699.
You know I wouldn’t let the price slip if I didn’t have a more attractive alternative, so here goes.
Last week I was visiting one of my regular blog reads, Elements of Style and she posted this,
The Kmart bed is $719.99.
I have to confess, I had such an incredible urge to reach for my credit card at that moment, I looked across the room at my purse hanging on the hook and then I remembered the Punch List for our house and my dreams of having the Colette doppelganger were virtually shattered.
But I haven’t forgotten about the Kmart knockoff and am not likely to forget about it any time soon. I’m hoping you’ll read this and tell me-what the hell you should buy it, we can have the new french doors too! Thanks for playing,
And now a quick word from our sponsors!

I’m not a patient person, so I understand rushing when you see something you like…however, have you thought about making a similar bed? I recall that Camila and her hubby made a bed similar to the Colette for a lot less (but certainly more sweat equity).

Ashley-I saw Camila’s bed and have gathered from her blog that her husband is pretty handy. I have to be realistic and know my DIY limitations which are broad! But now that I think of it I could probably get away with getting my upholstery lady to fabricate one for $500 or less.
This looks like a bargaining chip to me. If the affordable version of our french doors works out, and you can figure out a way to get our current bed up the stairs and into the guestroom, I might entertain this idea. Don’t know if the bed getting up the stairway is physically possible though.
or the current bed can always be sold along with the dresser that is not a good fit for the guest room
Pottery Barn has a great one, too. More in line with the Kmart price. Fabulous nailheads on the side and a lovely selection of fabrics!
Too bad they don’t have one for a full sized bed.
