Midland Project: Selection

Helluva weekend everyone, the Indiana house might have a new owner by this time next month! Plus I got two club chairs reupholstered and we painted DC’s big girl bed!

Let’s start off the week with a few selections for finish details at the Midland Project.

There is a bar in each apartment with room for a couple of stools and a couple of pendant fixtures.

I chose the Progress Lighting pendant with the industrial modern look, plus they remind me of the Phane pendant at Conran I was lusting after for my own house.

Also I like both the price and the look of IKEA’s Lansa cabinet hardware

Thanks to Remodelista, I discovered the Emtek Quincy lock set, I’ve ordered two of these sets for the front entries.

Continuing with the curb appeal, I also like the Hillman house numbers from Home Depot. These modern ditties are $5.99 each.

Midland dwellers also get stainless appliances, Costco is running a deal for a set of Whirlpool appliances for $2000. The set includes fridge, dishwasher, range and microwave. These should be arriving in the next few weeks.

The biggest stumper right now is the backsplash tile and countertop color. I’ve settled on WilsonArt’s solid surface line which is an acrylic material. I’ve been carrying around 4 samples in my purse, all different shades of white. I’d like to install white solid surface counters and a white subway tile backsplash paired with the natural birch cabinets. The problem is durability (white grout) and the possibility of staining or burning the white countertop if someone forgot to use a trivet.

Not sure what I’m going to do yet, but the clock is ticking.

  • I like the idea of white tiles and white countertop.. but with renters… could be bad. what about a dark grey color or maybe an almost black? I think that would look good with the birch and compliment the industrial vibe you have going with the lighting and other hardware.

  • White Corian would be a great option for you – we had it in our last house and it was indestructible. You can use Soft Scrub to get out stains and it can be sanded if there’s ever worse damage. And it’s a pretty cost effective option!
