After a seven month renovation, the Aframe is done! What does everyone love about renovations… before and afters so let’s compare.
We replaced and added new windows and doors on the front to expand the view of Thagard Lake across the street. We rebuilt the deck out of necessity and custom built the modern deck railing. We accented the “A” with a cedar board and topped the whole place off with a sleeker and more modern black metal roof.
We removed the odd covered entry on the side to reveal the brick chimney and the built-in grill and really to make things make more sense there architecturally. We added an awning to shield from the rain and weather when entering at the side.
OK so it’s not exactly the same angle in the “before” but you can see that the dormer was not originally there. The addition of the dormer was the biggest change to both the interior and exterior. It added head space to the stairwell so that an adult could walk up the stairs and not hit their head on the ceiling. It added valuable floor space to the master bedroom. It created a space where more windows could be added and more light could filter through the house, views are expanded and dimension is added.
We pushed the walls open a little more downstairs and eliminated the center column. We installed a load-bearing beam and poured additional concrete piers down below to carry all the load.
I never miss an opportunity for a built-in, especially when it’s triangular! We didn’t want to leave wall space in the dining area unused, so a built-in was installed.
We loved the custom oak shelving from our previous shop space and definitely wanted to order again.
New sconces, plus a simple oak mantle and the removal of a dated fire screen and the look is new!
You may recall from a previous post that we installed our deck railing with a conduit pipe. We took that railing design inside as well. We love the warmth of the wood newel posts alongside the modern metal railing in this bright, clean space.
Lastly, we’ll have a look at the bathroom updates.
We chose a Benjamin Moore’s Stonington Gray for a vanity refresh and added new hardware. New modern black faucets and a black farmhouse mirror and a new coat on the walls of Benjamin Moore White Dove and the master bath is looking good again.
We installed a charcoal grey hexagonal floor tile on the floor and tiled the shower surround with a classic white subway tile.
Fresh coat of paint on the wall, a new vanity, faucet and fixtures.
