What we learned going from $0 to $15k in Etsy sales

I know, that number sounds fun doesn’t it.

But don’t be fooled, we haven’t been able to pay ourselves a dime of it yet… Every piece of “gross profit” is going back into TEOT for next level shenanigans. Read brick and mortar, opening this Fall!

First off, let’s disclose that this is a full time job and even if we did scrape off 50% each of our profite for salaries, Sarah and I each would have made $3.5k last year, so there’s more to the math than meets the eye.

That’s less than a months wage in a previous life wrought with cubicles, inner departmental politics and cronuts in the kitchen memos.

Not sad to be free. Just saying the struggle is real as they say. The dream is free the struggle is sold separately. Pfft

So, yeah in full transparency here is what we learned…

Service providers can be flaky and aligning your goals and your brand with the goals of manufacturers who honor the integrity that you seek to pass along to your customers is paramount.

Start slow to get your shipping processes down pat. Shipping is freaking ridiculously complicated. The slower you can tip toe into the waters the more time you have to find your flow. Printing discounted usps postage from the Etsy platform suits Sarah fine as shipping from NC is so much less expensive than CA. Meanwhile I have made fast friends with the guys at the ups store and they hook me up with a discount daily.

Be consistent as possible. Sarah and I are streamlined so whether your pillow comes from CA or NC you can expect the same quality wrap job and box technique! We will only get better and better in time. Packaging is important.

Add products intermittently and consistently. We noticed a spike in attention across the full product line every time we add new product. So rather than uploadong 30 in one day we spread them out over a couple weeks to maximize eyeballs
