I haven’t regaled you guys at all with the designer details of my seventies themed soiree that I’m putting together for the summertime. But, it’s time to begin sharing my girlish notions with my fellow friends here on the blog!
I can see how this type of project could easily become a full time gig, but so far I’ve been treating it like that side job hustle that you keep procrastinating on.
Each week, the dude and I have a chuckle at the wedding to-do list reminders that I receive after signing us up for The Knot, which I then never actually utilized.
Luckily we have a wedding planner friend that is helping pull together the minutia and swapping fun ideas with me on the parts that I AM totally excited by
… mostly gathering inspiration pics and figuring out a space plan!
I love hosting!
I like to think I’m laid back and laissez-faire when it comes to planning… but those closest to me know that this is ruse, wrapped in a disguise, and peppered in LIE. In order to be so ‘go with the flow’ when it comes down to it, I have to meticulously plan and prepare ahead of time, right up until the point that I may release all expectation with trust in the preparation! Haha! I’ve been known to get straight up event planner anxiety when one of Jeff’s kids has a birthday dinner.
I’m messy and I’m NOT a perfectionist at all, but I want everyone to be well cared for and comfortable, and I want to feel like the atmosphere is a great expression of the occasion, whatever that may be…
In this case its a big, personal one! And that’s super exciting!
Suffice to say, as much as this day and this event is a powerfully fun thing to plan for and I couldn’t BE more excited for the events and the time we’ll get to spend with our friends and family, I am at best an unconventional bride, and at worst just a disorganized mess!
People keep asking me how the plans are coming, and I know that they are coming b/c I have lists and things are getting checked off — but I don’t have answers about what it is going to be just yet.
We’re officially less than 6 weeks in and my invites haven’t even gone out b/c the AMAZINGLY SILLY idea that we had for them is caught up in a wicked awful production snafu that I’m probably going to have to move along without. And it’s only a little bit sad, but I’m living on the edge by holding up my mailing date with hope.
And that is only our second hiccup in the planning process, after the resort venue booked all the rooms without saving any space for our families to stay as guests. Which was crazy, and kind of the entire point in booking there!
We’ve already adjusted the plan though and we’re feeling like it was all for the best in the long run. The important things are coming together, and some fun things are too! And ready or not, its happening soon!
