Yes I am going to talk about televisions wrecking the interior landscape again, I already wrote a post about TVs in the bedroom. Just to be clear I am pro-TV and I’m in the camp that says, live with it if you like/want it.
Some of us don’t have the luxury of a living room and a separate den so the TV is right there in the mix, sometimes fighting with the fireplace to be the focal point. This is the case in my house and I’m sure some of you share this challenge.
This is the TV over the fireplace at my house shortly after we moved in.
Maybe like I did, you too will find comfort in this image of this lovely living room with a big ol’ TV front and center.
**Also an item of note, the ceiling fan which you don’t see a lot in fantasy design world but in the real world in some locales it is a neccessity.

Hi Sarah, When Windsor Smith’s living room was published everyone gushed! Me included. How clever of you to notice the impractical layout. No one would display a TV so prominently unless they had seating to watch it in the real world! Must be a case of major styling for the photo shoot.
Good catch. I love Windsor’s work but it is comforting to realize that even the best designers need to stage their rooms for photography.

Sarah- may I ask where you found the swing-arm style lights over the built-ins? Something similar may work for my den!
The hide-the-tv debate is a never-ending one at my house!
I don’t mind the TV being prominent, it just hurts my neck to look at it over the fireplace!
I want to get a projector here for movie nights(something that I can put away)…

Glad to know I’m not the only one who has a tv mounted in a prominent position and not ashamed of it! It’s how I live! Let’s just pretend it’s on PBS a lot more than trashy reality tv, K?! ; )
