My mother would like to have an upholstered chair in her bathroom. She has a space for a chair with a small profile.
I can’t say that I’m thrilled with this idea but she’s convinced and so…we go on the hunt. Here’s some inspiration if you can’t quite picture it.

She’s drawn to Anthropologie’s Astrid chair.

Interestingly enought there are two Astrid chairs at a local discount furniture store called Plan B. At around $600, these are quite a deal although they would need to be reupholstered which would increase the price by at least another $500 (fabric + upholstery fee). The thought of an $1100.00 chair sends her looking for a thriftier chair. I’m pushing for something more in the direction of a dining room chair with an upholstered seat.
What are your thoughts on upholstered furniture in the bathroom?

I love the bathroom. It’s the one place in the house you’re allowed to lock without contest. It can be a great escape. And if I had a big ol’ bathroom, I’d put all kinds of upholstered chair in there. I think upholstered furniture works in the bathroom, but only the very large bathroom and only if it has a lovely tub or large pretty window. If you plan to reupholster a chair, I know you can pull it off for well under $1000. I’m with your mom!
In my bathroom… an upholstered chair like you show above would not work… but in the right bathroom, why not? I think it could be great. You might consider a custom chair for your mom. We’ve done them for around $750.00 (add about $150 for shipping and you are still under the $1100 plus you get a one of a kind piece and you can participate in the design process.
