Getting Ready

Over the weekend I put up some outside holiday decorations.  I bought a 20′ roll of pine garland from Lowe’s and decided to beef it up a bit with some of the frasier fir trimmings from our Christmas tree.

I already had some green wire that I bought at a craft store a few years ago. And so I just wired small portions of the frasier fir along the pine garland.

Added some lights and hung it up around the frame of the front door and voila.

Christmas wreath 2010

My Mother and I make fresh wreaths every year but this year I was busy at work and Mom made it for me. They are truly beautiful. We begin with a fraiser fir wreath from West End Wreaths. We usually collect what we can from my Mom’s garden. This year, Mom added cryptomeria, leyland cypress, juniper, small pine cones and canella berries.  She ordered the juniper, small cones and canella berries from Hammelman’s last year.  They lasted a whole year in storage! The only thing that we usually wire on are the pine cones, the rest is just sort of woven in. Our wreath is about $20-$30, you can buy a similar wreath at White Flower Farm but it costs $87.00.
