What up Cali Chalet?

Betsy Moyer Cali Chalet in Progress

Oh hey!

It’s been a very long minute since I shared what’s going on up the mountain here, but things HAVE happened.

Especially because we have been living here throughout the pandemic times.

The floors upstairs were completed long ago, but you and I haven’t had that chat. Here is a quick look at a before/after.

The contractor photo post install. I live for contractor updates like these!

We ended up with a 7.5″ wide Hickory hardwood plank, made by Armstrong.

Here is a same angle reminder of where it all started.

The floors downstairs are complete too. There was a long period where I considered carpet. I looked at samples and debated a very nice 100% wool in big luscious loops that cost a zillion dollars. Jeff and the kids all felt carpet would warm the space up. I just simply couldn’t find an affordable carpet decision that I could settle on aesthetically.

New floors in a hallway of dated doors downstairs.

So, we ended up carrying the same wood downstairs as well. I like a rug on top of warm wood floors better personally.

The Kitchen with its painted cabinets, and the spot where Juje and I like to eat our leisurely breakfasts.

The kitchen cabinets were moved around and DIY painted. I started playing with color choices months ago. I started out “dark with green undertones.” Before the new Jade velvet Willoughby sofa from Anthropologie arrived, my paint choice was too teal. I’ve slowly moved my way through to a light olive green and now back to a dark moody olive that is almost black.

The light in this house is so dynamic throughout the day and the seasons, so choosing paint colors has proven a real challenge. When people ask what shade of green they should paint their kitchen cabinets, the answer is “sample.” Sarah taught me that. Thanks Sarah.

The master bedroom

The next space of note is the master bedroom. I am in the middle of painting out all of the orange oak trim in the same shade that is on the walls. (Clark & Kensington dot dot dot. Flat on walls Eggshell on trim.)

We added a sofa and some accent chairs from World Market and I can’t find enough opportunity to sit here in front of our fireplace. It’s very cozy. The Anthropologie Prana Live Edge Canopy Bed will arrive in a few months.

The green room

This is Heffe’s office during the work week. It doubles as Tom’s classroom on the week he is here with us too! It’s also a media room, the bunk beds are meant to live here one day and there is a bicycle that we have all been using regularly.

I’m thinking of painting the orange peel ceiling the same green as the walls. It’s 100% okay with me if it feels like a cave. Otherwise, I’m just sitting on this room and waiting for the right idea to strike. It feels like it is trying to do a lot right now.
