Kristine and I visited the tile showroom to select a backsplash for her new kitchen. It is a challenging selection because all parties involved are fairly opinionated.
It is important for you to know that Kristine and her husband Fred selected a black granite with a matte “leather” finish. The honing process will also yield a similar look in granite.
Kristine’s husband Fred would like to see a smokey grey glass subway tile.

Kristine showed me some inspirational images she had collected from magazines. Almost all of the kitchens she showed me had a carrera marble subway tile backsplash. She said that she would like to bring in some grey, beige and white–neutral tones.
I tend to agree with Kristine. But the style of the house and the look we’d like to achieve in the living room forces us to ensure that we are walking a fine line between traditional and modern. In order to accomplish this I think we can choose marble or even a natural stone material that mimics marble but in order to get our modern twist we will choose a mosaic or a smaller subway tile.
Here’s what I used for inspiration during our showroom visit,
