Once upon a time, while hanging out with my brother in Austin, TX, he challenged me to an ‘are you green enough” off, which resulted in a ridiculous conversation where he taught me that we all need to make sure our home grown chickens are eating unprocessed feed. That’s funny… You can laugh at him and I will tell him that you did.
I like to imagine Joe Wirtheim, sitting in Portland Oregon having a similar conversation with his little sister, and then deciding to make these “agit-prop” posters to help guide her towards the right decisions. haha!
Do you wanna save the earth? I do, and I also wanna hang these throw back propaganda images up on the wall to help cheer me in my efforts.
From Joe’s website:
I enjoyed the charm of the active-voice propaganda, like a mother telling you to eat your vegetables – who can argue with that? Planting a garden, riding a bike, and just getting up and doing something. I found out that kind of art is called “agit-prop” or agitational propaganda, because it persuades the audience to get up and do something, not just change their minds.
