Love for Color

A Sunny SoCal Color Combo from West Haddon Hall

Design by West Haddon Hall

Sarah, thanks for pinning this West Haddon Hall room from a recent Domaine Home feature.

It got me thinking about color schemes in a predominately neutral room.

If you are like me, then you love color and the thought of a mostly neutral room seems kinda crazy, like a lost opportunity. I understand that many people have problems that are the complete opposite of this (I co-blog with one and I also live with one.)

I’m the type of decorator that needs to harness the power of editing. Which are you?

This room popped into my feed though and I am drawn to it in a way that made me curious. Made me want to break it all down and pull out the scheme. There is such balance. I love the look. Those little pops of blue and orange, pulled from the Suzani draped over the back of the couch, give the room life, right?

Blue House Revolution

What happens when you zero in on a great exterior color combination and end up with a great transformation like the Indiana house renovation?

You ignite a blue house revolution in your small NC town of Southern Pines and blue houses start popping up everywhere. #belikemike #darkbluehouse

And for a couple of bonus points, John & Sherry painted their show house dark blue too.

Pretty Pantry Doors

The door to the laundry room at the Bennett kitchen renovation is a newly installed pocket door. I’m thinking about painting it an accent color and I’m considering a bright, pacific blue like this fabric,

Aqua is a big fan favorite as an accent color but I don’t think that’s right for this project. I want a more saturated, stand out color. Here’s the path that others have taken,

I really like this one,

Green Kitchen Cabinets

Green Kitchen Cabinets  |  A 2016 Kitchen Trend to Love!

Certainly blue, in different shades like navy and blue/grey, is having it’s moment for kitchen islands and lower cabinets … but green?  Green Kitchen Cabinets are pretty happenin’ too.

Let’s see if any of these images set your wheels spinning, like they have ours.

One person who pinned this kitchen said, I can’t get Bailey McCarthy’s kitchen out of my head. It’s fairly easy to see why she can’t–cause that is kelly and it’s high gloss. McCarthy’s kitchen was featured in Southern Living.

Another designer who chose to go green in her own kitchen is Erika Powell from Urban Grace. Erika had her cabinets painted a couple of years ago. I wonder if Erika considered painting the open shelving white? We really love the selection of a more subtle sage hue. It’s decidedly more neutral, while still quite modern. Hence, it gets an A+ from us!

Betsy and I are big fans of CA designer Kishani Perera. Like the McCarthy design above, the Kelly Green choice seen here is also pretty freakin’ bold. Go big, Kishani!

Another option? You could go more on the camo / Army green side of green. We whole heartedly support this idea, since army green everything is pretty good in our books lately.

Of all the green kitchen cabinets that I found, this is my favorite. The suspended shelves with those cable brackets are very cool. And how about that beam? What would you call this color? A muted Pesto? Olive?

The hue looks great with brass and gold metal finishes, that is for certain. This mix is so lovely with the nice organic wood tones too!

Hunter Green Kitchen Cabinets

Here we find a green on the more neutral side of things. The ideas is still pretty pretty sweet in celery. I have noticed that most of these are best paired with white uppers and a classic subway tile. It sets a nice stage for statement lighting.

Ooh, now this looks like pesto and it pairs really nicely with a toned creamy beige up top. Just look at all that carefully planned kitchenware in those cabinets.

Since we can’t seem to get enough of green kitchen cabinets, here is one more with a sage on top and bottom, just because it looks so great on these tall cabinets.

So what do you think? Seems like we are totally into it. Are you prepared to take an official position on green kitchen cabinets?

If so write to us…in the comments. Most of all, we want to hear your favorite hues, the best hardware finishes and how you’d apply this look to your dream kitchen!

Grout Cottage: Interior Paint Colors

Grout Interior PaintI stayed relatively neutral with all of my choices because it’s not my living space– it was made to be attractive to all sorts of prospective tenants. I got to try out some new grays, Classic Gray and Moonshine. I especially loved Moonshine. Simply White is my new go to trim color and Woodlawn Blue was great for the bath in Apartment B. If you’re looking for a “greige” I’d test Classic Gray. If you’re curious about which colors went where, they will all be labeled on the posts about the individual rooms.
