Big Girl Beds

Where is my big girl bed?

This is a question my husband and I heard from DC a few times before it finally made its appearance in her room.

Here is DC’s room in the pre-big girl bed period at our old house Bungalow 404,

Kid's room2

I bought the bed at The Sleepy Poet in Charlotte. I considered upholstered but ultimately decided that I liked the turned wood found in the Jenny Lind style. Here it is before paint,

DC's big girl bed

We used liquid deglosser to take the old finish off. My Dad was kind enough to apply some Minwax wood filler on some of the joints on the headboard. After all of that dried and was lightly sanded, we sprayed two coats of primer. To finish off we sprayed two coats of Rustoleum’s High Performance enamel in glossy white.

Here is the finished product in her new room,

The finish got a little beaten up in the move but it turned out pretty well I think and its a style that will work for her for a few years.
