Indiana Project: Paint Take 3

5 May

I have found myself in yet another exterior paint related pickle. My Dad called me Tuesday night and told me he had cold feet about the Rainwater color. He wants to change it–again. Its a good thing vacation is looming.

I’m already pretty embarrassed about the failure of Mushroom. My embarrassment however isn’t half the problem. The budget is the main concern here and we must pay for each mistake we make.

Our real estate agent tells us that the feedback she is getting about the house is positive and people seem to like the color.  My Dad still isn’t convinced.

I’ve decided to bite the bullet and show you some pictures. All of these images are iPhone pictures. Please keep in mind none of the trim has been painted.

After four more hours of deliberation this morning, we have decided to change it. Yes, its crazy. Yes, its making me crazy.  By midday tomorrow, the Indiana house will be SW- Outerspace.  The trim as selected by my Dad will be SW-Toque White

Sorry for the renovation heartaches… but that house is going to be AMAZING. You’re a genius.

    Thanks for the encouragement Betsy.

I think they all look good. I probably would have left the first one up, but I’m cheap.

Jessica- the budget is feeling severly abused right now.

You made a good choice of getting rid of mushroom. I like rainwater, but I think I’m liking your dad’s suggestion too – only because I know where the house is and it’s surroundings. I love, love, love the house though. But I must say…what a pain in the arse! That vacation will be well deserved.

Rainwater is too light, looks like it belongs in Chapel Hill ;)
    Third time’s a charm!
    Great porch too.

I love the rainwater, but if it comes off looking like the 2 example photos, then I will like it better.

I would be totally chuffed with any one of these,to be honest. I think it’s a case of which one is MOST beautifully appealing, as all are lovely.
I’m still trying to convince my husband to paint out dark green (typically Dutch) trim black. He’s not budging. Yet.

One of the issues here is the age & condition of the some of the shakes. Many were replaced but most were not. Lighter paint colors show the defects. Rainwater honestly was far too “sweet”, my Mom said she felt like if she ran her finger across the house and licked it, it would taste like cake frosting–this is an accurate analogy.

Bummer about the mushroom color. I’m knee deep in selecting a color for the new cement board siding…we won’t be able to change the color for a long time…scary!

Londen-Just test generous sized swatches on different parts of the house and sample a lot and hopefully you’ll hit the perfect color. Congrats on the new siding!
